Due the exhibition 'From Here On', at the Centre d'Art Santa Mònica, in Barcelona, we have been interviewed as part of the artist presenting work in the show. This particularly one, is really well done, and have the testimony of Joan Fontcuberta, one of the curators, and Roc Herms, other photographer exhibiting. You can also take a look to the whole interview about my project on their website.

In 2000, the 30 second TV advertisement of ex-President Bush campaign, suffered a controversy. Alongside images of the candidate Al Gore, the ad shows fragments of the slogan "Bureaucrats decide". Then, the word "RATS" is flashed for a half second, just before the complete word "bureaucrats" appears. This subliminal message, could be processed by the spectators brain, affirm some psychologists.

Inspired in this supposed "accident" were the letters R-A-T-S momentarily dominated all the US screens, I create this series: Subliminal RATS.

During the workshop Taiyo Onorato & Nico Krebs (Tonk), in Barcelona, organized by WidePhoto, we set out to create a project where rats were the subject. Under these circumstances, I think this series and I highlight the current time of the society in which the figures of power are being subjected to considerable doubt by the people.

Lena Mozenkova (Moscow, Russia) considers herself “a woman with special body structure”. One year ago, when Lena was 34, she got into a car accident, “I was driving by myself and probably was my fault. I don’t know”. Due the crash her leg and arm were amputated. The recovery is being a bit slowly and for the first two-three months she really struggled, but she is getting used to it, because “life goes on”. She was right-handed and now she has to use her left one because the right one is amputated. Simple things like writing or washing her hair, “even buttoning” wasn’t easy. Little by little she accepted that she is “special” with a strong maturity and without complex: “I have one arm and one leg and there something beautiful about that”. Lena thinks that now in Russia people is started to pay attention to people with disabilities and they started to understand that it’s not easy, especially psychologically. According with the Russian Police Department of traffic safety; 26,567 fatalities happening during 2011, occupying the top 5 list of countries with highest traffic-related deaths.

I went to Russia for two weeks. This huge country have always drawn a lot of my attention. I had the good fortune to live in FABRICA with the excellent Russian photographer and friend, Margo Ovcharenko. So that was the ultimate excuse that was needed to catch a plane and plant me there. This time without a clear objective, rather than trying to flow and see what Moscow had to offer me. My iphone is the testimony of several episodes, each more surreal that I lived in that city. The resulting project will come soon.

I photographed the boat captain Sinto Bestard in Mallorca, Spain, while on assignment for issue 77, The Sea. Bestard became blind from a mistake made during an operation on his eyes 40 years ago. Since then he has dedicated his entire life to the sea, boating around the world. This is a portrait series of his daily life inside his ship, called the “Snooty Fox.”You can see the whole essay in my website.
