Workshop: Research-based Art Methodologies
This 5-day workshop focuses on research-based methodologies for creating reality-based narratives using photography and mixed media.
Participants will explore how research can drive long-term projects in both photobook and exhibition formats, with a focus on transforming investigative, archival, and personal materials into meaningful contemporary narratives. The program will include lectures and discussions on methodologies used by Laia Abril and other artists, as well as hands-on exercises to experiment with different approaches.
We will reflect on ethical considerations, develop strategies for structuring their research, and begin mapping their own narrative ideas. The goal, by the end of the workshop, is for participants to reflect on their methodology through tailored exercises and personalized feedback. Group discussions and guided activities will help refine individual approaches, ensuring participants leave with a new framework to apply to their own projects.
