Femme Love

Femme Love (2009) is Laia Abril’s first photographic series. What began as an exploration of femininity evolved into an intimate portrait of Mox and Jenny, a young lesbian couple living in Brooklyn, whose relationship unfolded at a time when same sex marriage remained illegal in the United States.

Through photographs made in close proximity to its subjects, Femme Love follows the rhythms of a shared life, observing moments of affection, desire, and domesticity as they unfold through everyday experience. Granting access to an intimate world built on trust and sustained proximity, the series invites viewers into the private space of the couple, where ordinary gestures reveal the emotional texture of queer intimacy.
