What remains, Moderna Museet, Stockholm, 2025

This exhibition is part of the On Rape project

Moderna Museet curator Anna Tellgren asked Laia Abril to propose two artists whose work could enter into dialogue with her series ‘On Rape’ —and whose practices have deeply inspired her.

WHAT REMAINS: Laia Abril meets Emily Jacir and Teresa Margolles”.

Resistance, commitment, and political standpoint unite these artists, drawing attention to stories that expose injustice and abuse, while raising questions about responsibility, understanding, and the role of art in dialogue and healing.

The exhibition presents On Rape (2020) by Catalan artist Laia Abril, Letter to a Friend (2019) by Palestinian artist Emily Jacir, and Plancha (2010/2025, newly created for the occasion) by Mexican artist Teresa Margolles.

The practices of the three artists — research-based works that draw on archives, photography, film, and interviews — now converge in a dialogue where resistance to various forms of oppression, social engagement, and storytelling emerge as connecting threads.
